Writing involves taking an idea and running with it until you type out "The End." We are inspired by so many types of media. For me its other books, movies, and fanfics. Today, I will share with you my favorite books!
We are the Monsters by Mary Imagination. Her reimagination of classic horror characters makes for an awesome read. Lovedddd. I look forward to anything else she writes in the future. I may be biased since I edited it but I read her book with growing fascination with how her mind worked to create such a story with amazing characters.
Silence Falls by Kaitlyn Lewis Werewolf shifters and an heiress to a kingdom. I loved this. I had never gotten into shifter books. But when she came to me to edit her debut novel, I was game. I fell in love with her characters. The way she writes their pain and pleasure is eye-opening and addicting. I can't wait for the next book.
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. This is my childhood favorite book. I reread it a million times and every time I spot a new edition with a gorgeous cover, I buy it.
After series by Anna Todd I stumbled upon this on Wattpad and I fell in love. I was not a fan of One Direction but it was talked about everywhere so I had to see what the fuss was about. As soon she printed it in book form, I was voracious. It is my most abused book.
Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon (I read her entire series, all 60+ books) I never thought I would get into alien smut. But this author made it easy to fall in love with the tall blue dorks who worship their human mates.
Tir Alainn Series by Anne Bishop (anything by her really. She world builds in a way that takes my breath away) If you want to get lost in a world that feels real, please read any of her books. Any of them. I love this series as it is hella feminist. She made me feel empowered and gave me deep inspiration for my writing.
Neon Gods by Katee Roberts This book is amazing. It brings vanilla people an insight into the world of kink with characters you could have a drink with.
The Dark One by Nikki St. Crowe This book is part of a series, the second one out of 4 books, and I chose it because it's perfection. I fell hard for one of the characters, Vane, he is damaged, he is scary, he is my dream book boyfriend/husband.
Caught Dead Handed by Carol J. Perry I got my love of reading from my mom and her favorite books to read were mystery novels. I found this series one day just browsing the local bookstore. It is so good and so well written that I never figure out who did it until she reveals. I always loathe reading mystery novels where I figure out who the murderer is in the first few chapters.
Priest by Sierra Simone As a girl who grew up Catholic, this book is blasphemous. Absolutely scandalous. It's my favorite book at the moment. I recommend it to everyone who will listen to me.
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Should I really write why I love this book???? DO I NEED TO?
Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. This book is amazing for writing advice. Read it for that but also read it for life advice.
The Atlantic Grail series by Vera Nazarian I rarely read YA books unless they are suggested to me by my cousin who teaches youths. This series I found somehow, I cannot remember how I found it. I think the first book was free and I got hooked. Either way. This is a great great science fiction novel that keeps you glued to the pages. Her idea of music being magic had me in awe.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. This series consumed me. This series my cousin introduced to me one holiday when it was first released. She shoved it at me and told me to read...right then and there. I did and it was amazing. I still have a Pinterest board dedicated to this book.
There are more I am sure. These are just ones that popped into my head therefore they are more important. If they are immediately thought of, they make up the fabric of my imagination and writing. Reading is important to writers. The way a sentence is written can be different from author to author. It influences us and gives us a path to follow. What are your favorite books? Do you have any to recommend to me to be inspired??
