 | Don Jimmy Reviews Jan 18 | Network Effect - Martha Wells Book 1 of 2024 Network Effect is book 5 of the Murderbot series, which has recently been revealed as a future TV show for Apple+. Book 5 is also the first "full length" novel, the first four being shorter novella sized stories. Unfortunately for me, this longer format did not work. For the first four books I listened via Scribd, but with this one I took out the paperback from the library, and I thought, at first, that maybe I wasn't enjoying it that much because I missed the voice of the narrator. However, I switched to the audiobook after about 80 pages and it didn't really pick up for me. The story felt a bit slow in comparison to the snappier previous books, and I was left feeling a little bored by the overall arc. I knew that a certain character was making a reappearance in this book, and I was looking forward to it, but it wasn't enough to save this one for me. In comparison to the other books, I didn't enjoy it. Still not awful, but it didn't make much of an impact on me. Hopefully not an indication of the books to come this year.
