All-in devastation is something that every different realm of death metal is ever so familiar with, but it goes without saying that not every band within those styles are able to really tap into what their respective veins of death metal are capable of even if it's just a little bit. A small bit of knowledge, tenacity, or well-placed power can go a long way in the right places with plenty of bands throughout the scene tapping into that for one record but then not so much in subsequent pieces. Coming into their second album, I wasn't sure where Soulcarrion would end up on such a scale, but it's within just a few tracks of the new darkness that it becomes evidently clear one needn't worry about Soulcarrion's quality of their butchery and madness.
Of all the things that go on within the eight tracks of this new offensive, it needs to be made clear that Soulcarrion leaves no room for error, survival, or mercy much like what we saw in their debut barely two years ago, yet it is in every step along the way throughout this creation that "Enthrone Death" ensures to seal the deal with demonic blood in each given opportunity. Death metal that can be easily construed as straightforward while hiding dark machinations and evil schemes behind that veil, Soulcarrion is a flavor of death metal that we've all seen before but it is from one minute to the next that it becomes evident how devilish the craft of Soulcarrion has become in such a short amount of time. They were never anything to sneeze at to begin with, but this Polish act has made a menacing metamorphosis that is a real treat for anyone who considers themselves a modern connoisseur of death metal for all that "Enthrone Death" brings forth and dares to execute. An intricate barrage of ferocity that you can only ascertain when you get to the lower levels of death metal's underworld where acts like Soulcarrion feel incredibly at home within. Pound for pound, "Enthrone Death" is naught but death metal in a pure, unaltered form, and it's simply magnificent to gaze upon.
We're not dealing with something that seeks to reinvent the sound or show us new ways to carve flesh, but, rather, how efficient the craft can become when you're dealing with a unit that knows precisely what they're doing every step along the way. For all that they put into "Enthrone Death", Soulcarrion stands tall as true butchers that show us what is still possible within the sound even as it's faced with loads of innovation, and it's in the face of that which Soulcarrion shows us just how vicious they've already become.
