By all accounts, I think it's safe to say that in many of its forms sludge metal is a beast whose power is not to be taken lightly, underestimated, or any of the sort lest it consume you in an instant. It's the sort of sound that, when allowed to flow over any sort of barriers and become an entity in its own rights, can become something that simply cannot be denied whatsoever. Whenever a band comes around that understands that it's almost always a sight to behold. With its debut creation something that more than qualifies as such, The Oldest House has already poised itself to accomplish immense things beyond what's already been summoned for this creation.
While far from the most uncompromising and vicious creation that the world of sludge has witnessed, especially in recent times, there's real menace and potency behind the concepts and approach of The Oldest House. For everything that's conjured in order to deliver its debut album, The Oldest House ensures that "A Worm Through Time" is as compelling and massive as one could ask for while always retaining a multi-dimensional offensive that knows when to pull back, when to deliver immense melody, and when it utterly eviscerates. All taken into extremely careful consideration, the depths of "A Worm Through Time" are not to be travelled lightly. A massive lumbering beast that is always on your tail and ever knowing of your location no matter where you may hide or how long it's been out of your view, The Oldest House is an interdimensional predator that cannot be stopped. A truly compelling monolith that is as titanic as it is horrific to gaze upon in virtually every form, "A Worm Through Time" is devilishly seductive with its riffs, distortion, and atmospheres all coming together beautifully to make for an imposing creation that is nigh-on thrilling to navigate, lose yourself in, and overcome. This is a wall of static that seeks the very light of your soul no matter where you go, and it is sure to find you every single time.
Sludge is always a style to watch with there being many big names out there moving mountains and destroying realities in order to bring further glory to the sound, and it is here throughout the whole of this debut piece that The Oldest House has made its presence and, especially, its power more than known as something to be respected. Devastating but intoxicating in equal heaps, "A Worm Through Time" is an adventure not to be denied.
