Should I make an entire post about specific writing advice or general advice I have given out over the years?
Let's do general. You can always message me for specific advice!
Write your story. Write it for you. Don't worry about the readers or types of readers. You got that idea and want to write it because you thought it was good. Trust yourself and write the story you envision in your mind.
Don't stop writing. Even if you explain to a friend or writing partner what you are writing and they have questions. Don't listen to them. This isn't their story. It's yours.
When you look for an editor, find one that gets along with YOU. You are entrusting your finished work with someone who understands you and the story. Choose well. Even if you choose well and find out the editor and you clash, you can always let them go and find someone else. Again, it's your story, not theirs.
And now for the best advice I know.
Please do not think that if you were terrible in school or cannot write a sentence you cannot write a book. Don't let your fears and insecurities about your writing ability hold you back. There are editors and alpha/beta readers out there who want to help.
We are storytellers by nature. Get your story down and be fearless!
