The 1989 (Taylor's Version) Celebration Reading Challenge is now officially over so I thought I'd wrap everything up today. This was hosted by T.K @ Genie With A Novel and you can see the original post here. As I said, it's just wrapped up but I had a great time joining in.
Out of the 16 prompts I managed to finish 10 which I'm very happy with. So let's jump in so I can share what I read!
Blank Space: a book with the main character's name in the title
For this, I picked Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Volume One: High School Is Hell by Jordie Bellaire. I'd already read this one in my midpoint check-in, but as I said in that post, this is a reboot of Buffy set in the 2010s rather than the 90s/early 2000s. I honestly don't remember much about this comic now but I have plans to come back to the series when I have time.
Out Of The Woods: a book with significant outdoor elements
In the last updated, I was almost finished with In the Shadow of the Mountain by Silvia Vasquez-Lavado which is a memoir about climbing Everest. I managed to finish it a few days later and really enjoyed it. I really struggled in the beginning with this but I'm glad I pushed through—it was definitely worth it in the end.
All You Had To Do Was Stay: a book you borrowed from the library or a friend
I had a couple of options here but I ended up going with Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood which I borrowed from my library's ebook service. This was an interesting read—I've enjoyed Hazelwood in the past, but the representation of T1 Diabetes (which I've had for 14 years) gave me pause. You can see more about that in my review.
Shake It Off: a book with mixed reviews
I was so glad when my copy of Fourth Wing finally came in and I could use it for this prompt. I'm not going to talk about it much here because it's part of another post but I understand why it has mixed reviews now. I actually had a lot of fun reading other people's reviews after I finished—I think you can really see the difference between fantasy readers and romantasy readers. Anyway, my thoughts will be up at some point.
I Wish You Would: a book that you wish you could read again for the first time
Again, I'd marked this off in the last post with Touched by Fire by Kel Carpenter. I didn't enjoy this one as much the second time around but it was still a good read.
Bad Blood: an enemies-to-lovers romance
This one might be a little bit of a stretch but I picked With Love, From Cold World by Alicia Thompson. It's more of a workplace rivals to lovers romance but I figure that's close enough. Both this one and the next book I'm going to talk about have reviews coming before the end of the month, so again, not too much to say here.
Wildest Dreams: a book with a creative protagonist
I was really struggling with this prompt until I managed to find Midnight Duet by Jen Comfort just a few days before the challenge ended. The protagonist is an ex-Broadway performer and musician so I thought that marked off this one nicely. As I said, more about this soon.
How You Get The Girl: a second-chance romance
I tend not to enjoy second-chance romances so I didn't think I'd mark this off, but I did pick up If The Sun Never Sets by Ana Huang. This is book two in the series and follows the same couple from book one, Farrah and Blake, as they rekindle their love. I didn't really enjoy this—it was fine, but a little bit repetitive.
Clean: a one-word title
The last read from that update post was Malamander by Thomas Taylor. This was a reread for me as well and I loved it just as much as I did the first time. I'm so glad I read this so I could finally continue the series because it's been fantastic.
New Romantics: a book about first love
And finally, I picked Reclaim by Cassie Laelyn. This is also a bit of a second-chance romance but they were also each other's first (and only) love. It was a really short read and I had a good time with it.
Prompts I Didn't Complete
Welcome to New York: a book set in New York, Style: a book with a pretty cover, This Love: a dramatic/roller-coaster romance, I Know Places: a book set in your home state/province/city, Wonderland: a retelling of a fairy-tales, You Are In Love: a friends-to-lovers romance.
And that's all of them. Did you join the reading challenge? What did you read?
