Long time no see! I know I didn't post an update for January, but to be honest it wouldn't have been worth it. I didn't have anything I could've share with you all because I didn't read at all during January and the only interesting thing that occurred in January was that I ended up writing over 2,158 words. Most of those words were in my attempt to update some fanfics that I have touched in months. It's what I do usually in January as a way to create a clean slate into the new year. By working on things and finishing them up usually. But this January wasn't the case. Just worked on updates. As well as started a challenge for the year for 2024. Which is to log my word count which i've been doing since the pandemic. and based on those numbers across those years, I've decided to tr and attempt to write 700,000 words. That's right, you read that right. 700k words. which i'm also counting blogposts words as well (since they do count towards the word count). So i'll be as usually updating word-count that I have for the month, but also then adding in how it's working towards the challenge (if anyone is interested in #'s and stats which is kind of what helps when writing). I've been updating every time I write on nanowrimo and created a whole project for it. If you want to follow me on Nanowrimo, click here, we can become friends and cheer each other on during our writing journeys!
Favorite songs of the month: beautiful things by benson boone. cigarette by shaya zamora. descending by sleep token. telomeres by sleep token.
Favorite fiction book of the month: Where's Molly? by H.D. Carlton. This one I was waiting for after binge-reading haunting adeline and hunting adeline a few months back. Spoiler alert (not really!) it is actually a quick read in my opinion, but very enjoyable. The relationship between Cage and Molly is very much in parallel with Zade and Adeline. (and spoiler make sure you read the ending part, theres an extra ending after the first ending in the book. Making me think there is gonna be a 3rd book in Zade and Adeline's series which I wouldn't mind reading).
Favorite non-fiction book of the month: How To Write Erotica by Rachel Kramer Bussel. This one was something I came across in barnes & noble in december and skimmed through and didn't get a chance to really dive into it until this month. It has alot of good tips and suggestions for other books to read up on (which yes I got the kindle editions of cause I can't have enough writing reference books).
Word-count for the month: 1,031. (progress towards 700k challenge: 4,437/ 700,000)
Random recommendation: now, this can be random for those that don't write but I can across an app that combined things for me that I usually had to have multiple browsers open at the same time. It is called butterdocs. It's like google docs but better. it has writing sprints that you can enable with a word-count of a timed writing goal. Again, i usually would have to have my google doc open and a web brwoser up running with a timer to keep me motivated in my writing. But now with butterdocs I don't have to do that. (which is honestly great cause I'm. thetype of person that once I have a web browser open I'll start getting distracted. So the less chance of getting distracted the better.) Butterdocs as a free version with the cap at 10 documents and after that you have to upgrade. I haven't gotten to that point yet, but I will let you know when I do if in the long-run it's worth the $$ annual subscription fee, which in my mind is the only downside, but it is a newer program that just got created towards the end of the year last year.)
That's it for this month!
xoxo,
Jessica Danielle
