Blurb:
For Serena Otaki, free-spirited Californian, life is simple. She loves smashing atoms at The Large Hadron Collider near Geneva, Switzerland. She loves Star Trek, spicy tofu, and her cat, Captain Purrk. She loves her messy (slob-fest) apartment, her chaotic brand of organizing, and staying permanently, happily unattached.
Life is perfect. She has one true love—physics.
Loving a man isn't in her future.
For Henry Joules, uptight Brit, life is simple. He loves making analog black holes, drinking piping hot tea, and organizing his pencil tray. He loves his family, red meat, and obsessively cleaning his spotless apartment.
Life is perfect. He has many loves—physics, family, friends. He can't wait to find the woman of his dreams.
Love and marriage are in his future.
One perfect night Serena and Henry meet. Sparks fly, particles collide, the universe comes to a halt, and…
It was a mistake.
They're too different.
It won't work.
Love isn't in their future.
Until an electric storm causes an unexpected event at the particle collider and suddenly—they've switched.
Serena is in Henry's body.
Henry is in Serena's body.
And both life and love are suddenly very, very complicated.
My 5* Review:
Switched by Sarah Ready is book two in her Ghosted series but can be read as a standalone. This is a slow burn, fake dating, opposites attract rom-com between two physicists, Serena Otaki and Henry Joule. The couple's banter and many hilarious incidents will have you laughing out loud as they negotiate the predicament they find themselves in. Sarah makes it so easy to connect with her characters as she pushes the boundaries of romance story telling. It is a great mixture of fun and magic, self discovery and empathy, all told in her unique style.
"If you don't reach out and capture the moment, you may never find that moment again."
If you have read Ghosted then you will already know Jillian's best friend Serena, the theoretical physicist. A very smart and quirky woman who fell in love with science aged four. She is working on the particle detector Atlas and nothing is more important to her than physics. She has no time for relationships and is happy living her chaotic life with her cat.
Henry is from Oxford and has just arrived in Geneva. It is love at first sight for him when he sees Serena in a bar and is positive she feels their connection too. He rescues her from her sticky situation and they enjoy a passionate one night stand. She is left with confusing emotions because she feels a strong magnetic pull towards him. He wants a relationship with her but she won't throw away her career even if what she is feeling is a lot like love. Their two worlds collide again when she finds out he is her new boss. Over the months Henry becomes demanding and grumpy, while she tries to avoid him.

One night as a storm rages outside the control room, she starts off a series of events that will change their lives forever. A Freaky Friday situation means they awake in each other's bodies. They need to stay together in case an opportunity arises to switch back, so pretend they are dating. This leads to many funny incidents but also some very emotional interactions with their families. They look like each other but can they act like the other and convince everyone. Will they ever find a way to switch back?
"The impossible is only possible until it isn't"
Be aware there is lots of scientific information at the start of the book which can be difficult to get though but once the switch happens it is a fantastic read. Henry is adorable and such a good guy who wears his heart on his sleeve. They both find seeing life through someone else's eyes is very enlightening and helps them understand things better. Serena learns so much while in Henry's body and gets a totally new perspective on life. There are some heart breaking revelations but these two souls are meant to be together and what Serena thought impossible really isn't.
