Introduction
This season is only ok honestly. In my opinion, compared to last season, this one is a bit lesser of a season. Still, it's not bad. There are quite a few things that I enjoy with good surprises. I knew that I would love like A Sign of Affection, Delicious in Dungeon, and Bravern. Frieren and Apothecary Diaries are still around with Urusei Yatsura season 2 and Synduality Noir Part 2 poking their heads. This season is held back by a few very questionable ones, but that's ok. Not everything is perfect.
A Handy Guide for how I feel about shows:
Solid: Seasonal Favorites, Highly Recommend.
Good: Maybe not as high quality as the first category, but still pretty enjoyable.
Ok: What it says on the tin. Maybe preferable for those who are into the genre the show is from.
Bad: I'm not even sure why I am still watching it besides maybe learning something from it.
Delicious in Dungeon
I really love watching this show every week. It's nice to have some really classic sort of dungeon crawling anime back. The twist of our crew eating dungeon monsters and trying not to disturb the ecosystem around them is a good twist. The cast is also very loveable with some great comedy there too. It's a good time.
A Sign of Affection
A really exceptional Shoujo series. It is based around college students and one being deaf but treated respectfully is really wonderful. The cast is adorable with the main couple opening each other's worlds a bit not and the show isn't shy about the realistic problems that our protagonist has being deaf unfortunately.
Apothecary Diaries (Cour 2)
The first court was great, but this cour's slowly developing mystery on Maomao's origin story has been incredible television. Every episode that feels stand alone culminated together beautifully and there is still more to come. I'm glad the cast is still as strong as every even if I'm missing a few of them from last cour.
Frieren (Cour 2)
I will continue to compare Frieren's second cour to Hunter X Hunter's hunter exam because that's exactly what it is with the first class mage exam. I really like that exam though and the new cast has been incredible too and we still are going through Frieren's journey and thoughts with Himmel at the same time. It's still incredible television.
Synduality Noir Part 2
Last cour was about would building and character building. This cour has been paying off all of it in spades. The appearance of Mystere in Noir's body through the cast through a loop and the journey and fight to keep both of them has been very good and well produced drama on the way to discovering what Histoire is. I look forward to watching it every week.
Brave Bang Bravern
What am I supposed to say about this show on any concrete level that isn't just "insane". I can't say that it's a parody of super robot shows because it's playing a lot of the classic tropes straight. The main thing driving the insanity is the fact that Bravern is a Mecha that loves to talk. He's a good guy that loves his pilot and does help him develop a bit. That's only a tip of the iceberg for everything there.
Urusei Yatsura (2022) Season 2
It's more Urusei Yatsura. What else do I need to say? The cast is still a loveable bunch of idiots and everything is becoming a little more unhinged and a bit more personal every episode. Especially with the latest episodes focusing on the problems that Mendou 's family is causing in the world completely unchecked.
Metallic Rouge
I waited for the seventh episode to confirm my theory on how I feel about Rouge (show and person). Yeah, it's pretty solid but messy sci Fi show. The setting is pretty cool and the journey that Rouge is going on to discover herself to save her ai/Nean-kind is a good one. I also do enjoy a lot of the characters. I just wish Rouge didn't have to pretend to be not as straightforward as it is.
The Fire Hunter Season 2
I don't have the heart to put this show in the bad even though it belongs there. The idea behind Fire Hunter is cool. Same with the attack on the capitol that should be cooler then it is. Unfortunately, this show is so convoluted and has been in the space that Evangelion's last two episodes have been in without any pay off.
Firefighter Daigo: Rescuer in Orange
Daigo has some really invigorating and amazing scenes from characters actually saving people in difficult situations. The puzzle solving and character struggle is good. The rest of it has slow character moments and a lot of pauses/recaps. This show should have been maybe 12-16 episodes and then it would be amazing. The way things are now, it's going to be stuck at okay.
Conclusion
So this is the look at the halfway point. Nothing permanent and so many things can change depending on how they shake out or fall apart. Still quite a bit of time to see if some things fall apart and other things start shining again. There is still hope for Daigo and Fire Hunter in the future.
