McLaren has unveiled the Artura Spider, its first foray into the realm of convertible supercars.
Equipped with a high-performance hybrid powertrain, this luxury drop top, a sibling to the Artura coupe, boasts significant enhancements across power, performance, and driver engagement, allied to the sheer ecstasy of open-top driving.
Both the new Spider and its new Artura stablemate (both designated MY25) are said to deliver the highest levels of dynamic performance, as well as offering the near-silent electric-drive when there's a requirement to be polite.

Reflecting McLaren's ongoing commitment to super-lightweight engineering, the Artura Spider boasts a dry lightest weight of just 1,457kg. This emphasis on weight reduction extends to the car's hybrid powertrain, where a recalibrated high-performance hybrid system churns out an impressive 700PS, coupled with an enhanced power-to-weight ratio of 480PS/tonne at its lightest dry weight.
The Artura Spider's design retains the iconic features of the Artura coupe, such as the 'hammerhead' nose and dihedral doors, while introducing a unique visual identity as a convertible.
The retractable hard-top system, operable in just 11 seconds at speeds of up to 31mph, adds a touch of theatre, while the rear buttresses incorporate a glazed section for improved rear visibility, acting as channels for airflow into the engine bay.
The aerothermal cooling system, specific to the Artura Spider, includes four ducting systems, visibly sculpted glazed buttresses, and an innovative roof shape to optimise powertrain cooling. The tonneau cover, made of lightweight carbon composite, can be finished in gloss carbon fibre for an extra touch of sophistication.
The McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA) forms the Artura's core, providing a secure platform that maintains rigidity even when the retractable hard-top is in motion.
Under the hood, a recalibrated 3.0-litre V6 engine now delivers an additional 20PS, pushing the total power output to an impressive 700PS; twin-turbochargers positioned within the 'hot vee,' enhance throttle response.
To match the potent combustion engine, the Artura incorporates an axial flux E-motor generating 95PS, further boosting torque delivery and acceleration. The E-motor is powered by a 7.4kWh battery pack, offering an increased electric-only range of 33km. The instant torque from the e-motor, combined with the V6 engine, propels the Artura Spider from 0-62mph in just 3.0 seconds, reaching a top speed of 205mph.
The rear suspension, paired with a bespoke version of McLaren's Proactive Damping Control system, promise exceptional ride and handling characteristics.
Inside the cabin, the clean steering wheel features sculpted gearshift paddles, while the McLaren infotainment and connectivity system (aka MIS II) uses two high-definition screens and is capable of smartphone mirroring.
The McLaren Clubsport seat comes standard; the interior specifications - Performance, TechLux, and Vision - allow drivers to tailor their Artura Spider according to their aesthetic preferences. Adjustable lumbar support can be specified as an additional feature.
A five-speaker McLaren Audio System is standard, but we'd advise upgrading to a Bowers & Wilkins 12-speaker surround sound audio system, featuring B&W's famed Continuum midrange speakers and Nautilus Aluminium Double Dome tweeters. The Artura Spider additionally features an additional rear centre speaker to optimise the cabin's convertible-specific acoustic requirements.
Naturally, there's also an extended palette of exterior paints, with options for carbon fibre components, and a variety of wheel finishes allow for personalised touches.
The McLaren Artura Spider is available to order now, with a starting price of £221,500.
