Heralding the new era was George Dunning's 1968 film 'Yellow Submarine', but the two most important film makers pioneering in this new field were Ralph Bakshi in America (with e.g., 'Fritz the Cat' from 1972 and 'Heavy Traffic' from 1973) and Osamu Tezuka in Japan.
