Bang Yongguk's solo music can be hard to pin down. I often classify him as an artist who mixes rock and rap in evocative, moody ways. But then a song like Movimiento comes along.
Bucking expectations, this track brings Yongguk to the dancefloor. A club beat runs under nearly every moment of Movimiento, tying his hazy, halting rap to a sprightly base. It's an interesting sound, unlike anything else happening in K-pop. But while I appreciate the creative swerve, I wish the song itself felt less nebulous. It's painted with a murky tone that grows a bit monotonous as it goes on. I keep waiting for another element to come in and inject a new texture. Maybe the production could have done more with the cool, filtered choir of voices that opens and closes the track?
