Weekly Seasonal Watches: Winter 2024 Season Week 9

Scott

March 4

This past weekend was a busy one that I wasn't at home a lot until Sunday. After work on Friday, I was home for an hour until I went to see Dune 2. Saturday was at Emerald City Comic-Con that I will report on soon. Probably next Saturday. That meant cutting down a lot of what I usually watch except for these seasonal shows. Something I'm glad to see where mostly interesting.

Table of Contents (Click to see thoughts on a show/episode from last week)

Delicious in Dungeon
Wonderful Precure
Frieren
Daigo
Apothecary Diaries
A Sign of Affection
Synduality Noir
Urusei Yatsura
The Fire Hunter
Brave Bang Bravern!

Delicious in Dungeon Episode 9

Just like every other episode, this one was great. Especially with the SpongeBob style of humor that I loved dearly. This time, a paid group showed up and Marika, a former party member, had people with them. An old cleric and some twins. It's interesting seeing how the two groups interact when investigating the dungeon and how Marika slowly gained warmth with these guys again as well as helped do dangerous things to bring Marcille's magic back. Great characters and world building.

Wonderful! Precure Episode 5

Very interesting episode because it looked more indepth between the relationship of Iroha and Komugi. It starts with a little girl trying to walk her dog, but the little dog won't accept the leash. Then we see the beginning of Iroha and Komugi's relationship where Komugi had a lot to start with Iroha which plays a lot into the new power the two gained chasing down a penguin. The question of why Iroha can use the power while Komugi can't is interesting.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Episode 25

Wonderful episode once again with the show playing with flashbacks in such a fantastic way. The episode was once again mages gathering intelligence and knowledge from experiences then Fern and Frieren take on Frieren's copy with the match itself being short but epic and Fern with the copy kill. The flashback between Serie younger Frieren does highlight a lot of things especially with how magic got to where it is. It's a good time.

Firefighter Daigo: Rescuer in Orange Episode 20

Part of the episode was the electric water rescue while the other is the questioning of what Unit M is and how many units there might be. It's still a bit slow, but there was a lot of cheerful moments from Toake saving the cat and a lot of thought regarding what's going to happen next. At least there is a bit more to chew on this time.

The Apothecary Diaries Episode 21

This episode was one focused on Lihaku hearing rumors about his Courtesan possibly being bought out and him asking Maomao for advice. It's a slower episode, but one that you can see chess pieces and complicated plots within plots occuring. Why would Jinshi just give Lihaku so much silver. Is it because of Lakan? Also, Maomao did learn a lot the quack doctor from his paper stories. A lot of things to see how it all connects because I can't help but think it must somehow.

A Sign of Affection Episode 9

Really adorable episode once again. Mainly because it was the sign language camp in the woods which means a lot of excellent scenes between Yuki and Itsuomi as well as scenes between Rin and Kyouya. There is also a bit of tension from Yuki not being able to find a job yet and whatever is going on with Oushi hanging over it. Could cause some tension in the future, but this episode was pretty amazing.

Synduality Noir Part 2 Episode 8

This episode was the reveal episode and it is so good. The reveal of who Noir is as coming from Histoire while Mystere has looked down upon her the entire time war such a large fist bump towards the air. I also really enjoyed the way Pascale, Mystere's and Noir's master was characterized as being so free and world loving. I also really enjoyed the other reveal of who Tokio/Licht is as loving freedom compared to Macht/Black Mask who can't hold onto his ideals with Weischt who only sees everything, including Maguses as only toys. Everything has built to these ideals and it's so well done.

Metallic Rouge Episode 8

Another kind of all over the place episode where Rouge is finding her own point of view and it does come from how a child would see it. A visit with her brother Gene and guests (detective and Nean assistant) reveals that the father Rouge was killing the immortal 9 for just observed her and it's Rouge's mom that loved her. Anyway, after that the Jill and the Alters start to attack and want her Eve's code. Through out the experience of seeing the humans attacking Nean and Nean attacking humans, Rouge is going to neutral path of saving both. Going to be interesting to see what happens from here.

Urusei Yatsura (2022) Season 2 Episode 8

Looks like we will be in the future for a while. After Shinobu complained about guys, she ran into a guy in a bunny suit with a key that opens doors. It's interesting to see the world we saw last time again and the gang (Shinobu, Lum, and Ataru) joining Inaba for finding a future they all like and just can agree with. All while evading the other bunny suit wearers. This episode really was hilarious and full of fun adventure.

The Fire Hunter Season 2 Episode 8

I've thought about what to say about this episode for a few hours and I'm still not sure what to say in a definitive way. Part of the episode was seeing Kira's parents fight it out in demonic form and killing each other in front of a possessed Kira which was a lot. Rokouro also said goodbye to Koushi while him and his dog were bleeding out in a badly represented way. Also, Touko and the Flickering Flame talked about what their wishes are while the sky is the satellite in the sky started to crash to earth with lighting hitting all over the sky. It's just a lot to think about but it's also a mess too. But there are interesting things going on. I wonder if the novel version probably makes a lot more sense.

Brave Bang Bravern! Episode 8

It's not time to say goodbye to Smith yet. At least I don't feel that way even this episode was a flash back to his love of heroism and Tokusatsu after giving a flash forward in the beginning. But the build up of the long journey around the horn of Africa and growing danger of three towers in one place, so three horny death drives and one really wanting to make love to Smith with so much desperation of Bravern fighting two death drives and all the desperation Smith faced to save his crew. It was such an amazing episode on all levels.
