The very state of rock music and its spirit is always a topic of discussion across the entire world with it being argued that it's dead while others are staunch believers that it still has many more decades to go. Personally, my very bones tell me that the spirit of rock music is not going anywhere. The names change hands with the popularity shifting every so often from one group of artists to another, but the drive and aspirations are always the same: to perpetuate the soul-freeing ecstasy of rock music no matter what form it comes in. Plenty feel as though there aren't enough names coming out of the woodwork that are able to carry on the torch in any meaningful form, but most of those people aren't searching in the right places if they search at all. To come across the name of Abrams is to quickly realize this band has real talent and potential with their latest work a glorious testament to that truth.
There's always something to be said about just going with the flow and crafting something that is certifiably your own even if it doesn't reinvent the genre or rock in the boat in any significant way when it comes to approach or style. Being damn good at your craft is oftentimes more than enough to get the attention of many when it comes to dishing out quality rock music, but that didn't stop Abrams from trying to do it all. Such a thing has been attempted by many to tragic results given the sheer volume of the task at hand, but it is here throughout the absolute entirety of "Blue City" that Abrams does it all in stupendous fashion. With all ten of these tracks holding nothing back and constantly showing us what Abrams of made of, this is a record that is just downright electrifying! Comprised of more than enough riffage to keep the dopamine flowing in the right direction and always shifting when it comes to what realm of rock the inspiration comes from, "Blue City" is anything but stagnant as Abrams is able to put forth a delicious and eclectic blend that really captures your imagination with the record channeling the sensation of a carefree drive with the windows down, sun on your skin, and the wind in your hair to create the ultimate sense of freedom through the bliss of pure rock and roll. Where many have done their best to keep the flame of the genre alive, acts like Abrams are what keeps it burning exceedingly hot!
This is the reality that we are met with when talent, passion, and quality all come together in spectacular form to ensure that not only is the whole of rock music given yet another platform to show us what it is still possible of putting forth, but how younger and newer acts are still able to meet the sky-high expectations laid forth by those who came before. Cathartic, intoxicating, and more than enough crunch to go around, Abrams has done nothing but impress with all that "Blue City" contains within to make the band's fifth album one of their most exciting.
