I'm delighted to welcome you today to my stop on the blog tour for The Complete Short Stories of A.A. Milne, a collection of short stories for adults that include new stories published for the very first time.
Thank you to Anne Cater and Farrago Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this exciting new collection of stories by the critically acclaimed and much loved children's author A.A. Milne.
About the author:
A.A. Milne was born in London in 1882 and became a successful playwright and poet. He based Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet and friends on the real nursery toys of his son Christopher Robin and published the first of their adventures in 1926. Since then, Pooh has become a world-famous bear, and Milne's stories have been translated into sixty-two languages.
About the book:
The first complete collection of A. A. Milne's short stories for grown-ups **INCLUDES NEWLY DISCOVERED, NEVER-SEEN-BEFORE STORIES**
Collected in full for the first time, Milne's short stories are an epiphany and show his renowned charm, concision and whimsical flair in all their brilliance.
He paints memorable scenes – from a children's birthday party, to an accidental encounter with murder, and a case of blackmail – often with an unexpected twist. But he also deals in poignancy, from the girl who pulls the wool over her boyfriend's eyes, to a first dance and first disappointment or family reunion and domestic dissonance.
Beguiling and evocative, Milne's thought-provoking stories for adults will make you see his works for children in a whole new light.
My Review:
Beginning with an introduction by the incomparable Gyles Brandwith, The Complete Short Stories of A.A. Milne is a collection of short stories for adults that includes new, never before seen stories, that are to be published for the very first time.
An eclectic mix of tales from various genres, this is a book best to be consumed slowly as you dip in and out of its pages, discovering something new every time. It is a book that most definitely highlights just how brilliant A.A. Milne was as a writer and that there was so much more to him (as awesome and beloved as he is) than Winnie the Pooh.
I loved immersing myself in the stories of Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Christopher Robin etc. as a child, but was oblivious to the fact that A.A. Milne also wrote stories for adults. So this collection of short stories was an absolute revelation to me - and I must say was a pure delight from beginning to end.
There is something for everyone here. From romance to a birthday party to a murder mystery tale, this book really does have everything. Thought provoking and full of the kind of unexpected twists that I love, this is a book I know I will keep going back to time and time again - and is one that will take pride of place on my bookshelf alongside those books that really do mean the most to me.
A must read for anyone who loved A.A Milne's writing as a child, this is a gorgeously packaged short story collection that I would highly recommend.
