I received "Heal Your Daughter" by Cheryl L. Green, M.D for review from the publisher, and since I have two daughters, it seemed like it might be useful for me to read the book. Indeed, it could be useful for me as a daughter.
Read my review to see if I recommend the book and where you can buy it. Be warned, there may be triggers if you are experiencing or have experienced the mental health challenges that the author discusses.

My Review of "Heal Your Daughter" by Cheryl L. Green, M.D
This book was not what I expected. The full title is "Heal Your Daughter: How Lifestyle Psychiatry can Save Her from Depression, Cutting, and Suicidal Thoughts."I thought it would be serious and medical in its approach, but the author has chosen to explain a whole lifestyle change that can help improve self-esteem, self-confidence, and ultimately life experience for predominantly teenage girls, although I would say this book could help anyone who feels drawn to read it.
There is advice about the medical side of depression and associated anxieties, but the author is keen to stress that we can all make changes holistically to improve mental health and heal our daughters if we feel that they need it. It was good to see that the author intends to help girls and women to heal themselves and learn to take care of themselves rather than looking externally for help, which I personally feel is an important lesson to remember.
There is guidance around dietary choices and how processed foods can negatively affect the brain. There is guidance about physical fitness, social interaction, social wellbeing, better sleep habits and how to detox safely. It is not a huge book, but it is packed with useful, useable lifestyle tools and habits, and I definitely recommend it if you are seeking to move on from mental illness.
About the Book
Though adolescent girls have been experiencing high rates of depression for a long time, the recent pandemic has deepened the crisis. Dr. Green has witnessed the rising tide of despair in teen girls both in her own private practice and at the medical university in which she teaches child and adolescent psychiatry. In "Heal Your Daughter: How Lifestyle Psychiatry Can Save Her from Depression, Cutting, and Suicidal Thoughts," Green delineates a new branch of psychiatry, Lifestyle Psychiatry, and details how this new field can help parents to help their daughters to heal from depression and related problems.
From this book, readers will learn what steps they can take to help their daughters to reshape their daily habits so that, in turn, they can reclaim the foundations of their physical and mental health. Recommendations are offered in six lifestyle domains: nutrition, detoxification, exercise, sleep, emotional connectedness, and stress reduction. Heal Your Daughter has proven to be an important new contribution to our collective understanding and support of today's girls.
