A K-pop act's title track isn't always the best song on their album, even if it's the one most people will hear. Sometimes, b-sides deserve recognition too. In the singles-oriented world of K-pop, I want to spotlight some of these buried treasures and give them the props they deserve.
Tomorrow is TXT's most consistent album in awhile, but it's also consistently short. With only one song over the three minute mark, its ideas could use some development. I've soured on the main version of single Deja Vu in favor of the superior "Anemoia Remix," and that mix's angsty rock energy characterizes much of the album. This angst often threatens to devolve into mopiness -- a vibe I've never been fond of. Everyone processes emotions differently, but I find that mopey music only tends to perpetuate more mopiness. So while songs like Miracle and Quarter Life are solid, I'm a bit over this sound.
Instead, I want to feature the album's red herring of an opener as Buried Treasure. I'll See You There Tomorrow is the only dance track, though its sleek house style is more subdued than explosive. Over subsequent listens, this is the song I find myself humming after the album has finished. Its quirky electronics paint a stylish mood, offering enough space to showcase the uniqueness of the members' tones. If K-pop groups are intent on delivering "vibes," I appreciate when the music has a pulse. I'll See You There Tomorrow isn't overly complicated, but it really works its way under your skin. And with more than three minutes to play with, it's given time to luxuriate in its groove.
