Blurb:
A best friend, a stalker, and a bodyguard walk into a bar…
Current status: Living my best life. *Flips hair* What more could a girl want?
Just kidding.
My life has gone to shit. All the fun, late nights, and single life come to a screeching halt when I find myself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Now, thanks to my overbearing best friend, I've adopted a guard dog to keep me safe until they find the guy who attacked me.
Insert Tate Deveraux, my newest inconvenience. He's brawny, not bad on the eyes, and a pain in my ass. Not only am I stuck with him until I'm out of danger, but he's moving in with me.
He's become a nuisance in my life and needs to go—stalker be damned. So do the urges to strip him naked and see if the rumors about hand size hold true. I blame my crush on booze and the kiss that should have never happened.
The simmering attraction between us is undeniable, but he's made it clear I'm just a job. With lines being crossed and my life at stake, I guess I'll find out if he's better at keeping me safe or sated.
My 5* Review:
Such a fun Rom-Com.
Hatemates by JD Hollyfield is a standalone with connections to her previous book Power. To get the most out of this book and to really appreciate Theo, I totally advise you to read that first. This is a steamy enemies to lovers romance between Tate Deveraux and Mindy Parks. These two are very strong characters so they were always going to clash. While their relationship develops we get a thrilling suspense when her stalker refuses to give up. Will Tate be able to keep things professional and protect her? Can Mindy overcome the past and accept the love she deserves?
Mindy works at a bar and to help pay the bills she works on low-level movies. She used to enjoy it but recent events have made her consider leaving and getting a more stable job. She wants more out of life and is fed up with being broke and feeling a failure. To make matters worse she has had three deliveries of roses to work, each with a creepy and scary note.
After work one nigh there is an incident but luckily someone comes to her rescue. Her best friend Fay and her fiancee Theo, rush to the hospital. Fay is over protective of Mindy and worries about her safety so Theo wants to employ a bodyguard for her. Fay knows Mindy doesn't like or need help from anyone and is strong and independent but convinces her to accept Theo's help. I loved how Mindy constantly calls Theo bossy and tells him off for interfering, she doesn't stand for any of his nonsense and taunts him. I found some of his threats so amusing.
Tate works as a personal bodyguard and will keep her safe and live with her until the stalker is caught. Mindy doesn't want a roommate especially a super hot giant of a man. At first Tate comes across as emotionless and lacking in personality but she quickly develops crush on her broody companion. Tate is ex military and very professional so although he is attracted to her, he reminds himself she is just a job. As they get to know each other the attraction and chemistry between them is undeniable but could they cross the line? Tate is determined to resist the feelings he has for her because he must protect her in case her stalker comes back to finish what he started.

Until Mindy met Fay, she believed the only person she could count on was herself. Now Tate has flipped her whole world upside down and managed to break down her walls. Their antics and banter made me laughs much, especially her funny mugs. The steamy scenes when they give into the temptation are good. They both have issues which means they find it hard to trust and open up so it was lovely when she finally told him about her childhood and the traumas she went through and he reveals his heartbreaking past.
My heart went out to Tate as he agonised over what to do when he couldn't resist her anymore. Neither think they deserve the other and it was great how he shows her she wasn't alone and could accept help. He worked hard convincing her she was a better person than she showed people and she could go after the things she wanted. The twist and revelations at the end were surprising and unexpected. It was wonderful how Tate shows Mindy the way love could be and was so devoted to her. A very entertaining read which I throughly enjoyed. Loved the romantic ending and hope we get more from both these couples.
