Originally inspired by Sting's track 'Desert Rose,' Message in a Bottle weaves together themes of displacement, immigration, and survival, resonating with global audiences through high-energy footwork, exhilarating dance styles, and breathtaking athleticism.
The narrative follows the journey of three parted siblings - Leto, Mati, and Tana - as they navigate through a world turned upside down - from a village alive with joyous celebrations to sudden siege, their daring adventures serve as a poignant reflection of survival, hope, and love in the face of adversity.
Kate Prince, Sadler's Wells Associate Artist and the visionary behind the choreography, has worked closely with BAFTA-winning director Marcus Viner to capture the essence of the stage production for the big screen. This theatrical release is made possible through a partnership with the Royal Opera House.
With rave reviews from its original run at Sadler's Wells The Peacock Theatre in the West End in January 2020, Message In A Bottle has already wowed audiences and critics. Now, its cinematic release promises to bring this novel production to an even wider audience, captivating viewers with its powerful storytelling and mesmerising performances.
As a world-leading dance organisation, Sadler's Wells continues to push boundaries and redefine the art of dance, inviting over half a million people annually to experience the magic of movement in its three London theatres.
Message In A Bottle is produced by Sadler's Wells and Universal Music UK, co-produced with Birmingham Hippodrome and The Lowry, Salford. It dances its way onto the silver screen May 30, 2024.
