Vnder a Crvmbling Moon – II: Aging & Formless

I have been well beyond impressed with the representation that 2024 has already given us in many of the different styles across the underground with there seeming to be at least one or two albums in each broad vein to give real justice to the sound where previous years have proven to be sparce with. Naturally, though, there are still a few styles that aren't given the proper audience with there still loads of space for real talent and potential to rise out of the mirth. For post metal, we've maybe seen a handful of interesting names come along to really keep us interested with the forthcoming work from Subterraen largely the biggest movement in the sound so far this year. Coming off of a productive year, however, Vnder a Crvmbling Moon poises itself to really seize the moment and bring true glory to their sound.

It needs to be said that post metal has had plenty of representation when mixed together largely with other sounds with the aforementioned Subterraen bringing sludge into the mix to tremendous effect or like with doom metal from Clouds Taste Satanic, yet it's not often enough that we get to see post metal stand on its own virtually unassisted by other styles. Thus, to take even one step within the nearly hour-long experience of "II: Aging & Formless" is to quickly realize that Vnder a Crvmbling Moon is both incredibly adept with this particular sound and exceedingly deadly to a fascinating degree. Highly expansive in even the smallest moments of the album to really allow their brand of post metal to stretch its legs as much as possible, Vnder a Crvmbling Moon crafts a dense listen that holds nothing back even as the act presses onward with stylistic choices that both set themselves apart from much of the rabble and enables the work as a whole to take on real depth and personality. Exceedingly intoxicating with its atmospheres, Vnder a Crvmbling Moon is constantly infusing "II: Aging & Formless" with additional electronic effects that enhance the work beyond what would've already been something that should not be easily underestimated. Rather, these seven tracks quickly grow into quite the foreboding beast. Heavy, impactful, and surgical in its precise movements, Vnder a Crvmbling Moon more than earns your respect with everything that's been thrown down to bring this experience together.

Where it can be argued that there's a gap in representation in post metal, Vnder a Crvmbling Moon is quick to fill that void with real excellence. Last year proved insanely productive for the act, and given all that has been brought forth for "II: Aging & Formless", I cannot help but feel this act still has plenty of momentum to yet again conquer with the quality and power to match all along the way. Many have tried to rise to the occasion for post metal, but Vnder a Crvmbling Moon proves itself as one of the extreme few that actually can.
