Brooklyn-based producer, Flamingosis celebrated the release of his sixth studio album Better Will Come on Friday, May 10.
Better Will Come opens up like a 1970s buddy crime film with "After The Pain" which has the feel of an opening credits scene akin to Starsky and Hutch. It then moves into the feeling of an upbeat video game lounge with "Soul Searcher". Disco influences permeate and set the theme for the album with "Never A Coincidence."
The album then takes a turn towards jazz with "The Truth About It (with Late Night Radio)"; this song has a back beat that evokes A Tribe Called Quest, and includes flutes and horns. Those jazz elements continue into "Life and Death of Hard Times" with big vocals and a nice groovy drop. The album then gets spacey and light, and begins to include more guitar and synth. This continues with piano, and a nice baselines.
Better Will Come then introduces some sexy Japanese vocals, jazz skat, and brings you to the feeling of a pool lounge with its simple grooves. Now established, the album finishes out with simple and easy grooves that make the album a pleasant listen from beginning to end.
On the whole this album is a great groovy complete piece which works well for a road trip, or sonic wall paper when working. It's got a lounge feel that will decorate a dinner party, or offer some moments of sweet reverie in the hints of jazz and disco that it suggests.
Flamingosis will go on tour to compliment his new album release. It will kick off this Friday, May 17, and feature many prominent cities on the west coast. Flamingosis will feature live guitar, keys, guitar, and trumpet on his tour. Listen to the new album here!
