Another Papberbacks from Hell book off the list! It's been a lot of fun chipping away at them!
HELL HOUND - Ken Greenhall (Released January 1st, 1977)
Chandra has been doing a new format for her reviews - so you'll be able to find the reel of her review on her Instagram page! It was also a 4 star read for her!
Book Description:
'What are the possibilities of my strength? That is a thought I have never had before. What if some morning as the old woman stood at the head of the staircase she were suddenly to feel a weight thrusting against the back of her legs? What if she were to lunge forward, grasping at the air, striking her thin skull against the edge of a stair? What would become of me if she were found unmoving at the bottom of the stairway?'
Such are the thoughts of Baxter, a sociopathic bull terrier on the hunt for the perfect master, as he contemplates the demise of his first victim.
My Thoughts: 4/5 stars
I need more Paperbacks from Hell in my life, and I'm so glad Chandra is buddy reading them with me! Let's Go Play at the Adams and When Darkness Loves Us have been others we've read
Are dogs bad because they're just bad, or is it because of the owners? Are dogs capable of being sociopathic? Well, bull terrier Baxter is sick of his owner and would much rather live with the new neighbors across the street. An elderly woman isn't the right match, and he's contemplating her demise.
I've always said, make sure you can give a dog the proper exercise and play time, especially with certain breeds. A bored dog can get into all kinds of mischief, however, Baxter might be a special case. I loved being in his POV - sometimes those of animals can feel really forced but not in this book! I also loved the POVs of the people who came into contact with him.
Is Baxter just evil, or are the people to blame? Not everyone is so innocent. This little book packs a punch, and it's not the campy gory 70s horror you might be expecting. It gets dark. This is so underrated, and I love these releases for the Paperbacks from Hell and reintroducing these horror books. That ending. I need more opinions!
