Conceived as a U.S. History/Civics project for 8th graders twenty-five years ago, it has become a school and community tradition. Students, teachers and reenactors worked together to make history — battles, daily life, medical science, slavery's abuses, and Lincoln's Gettysburg Address — come to life. Especially moving was our visit to the graves of Civil War veterans at rest in the King City Cemetery. President Lincoln approaches the podium Harriet Tubman and Sojourner Truth speak of slavery's horrors.
