Based on a series of plausible events in a regional Victorian town
Well friends, on we go through May, and this weekend sees the running of the Glorious Goodwood Handicap at Morphetville to end the Adelaide Carnival, which hasn't often been glorious given the only previous race winner most people can remember is Black Caviar, while some other highlights include:
With the latest band of heavy rainfall thumping the east coast of Australia, the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes and the subsequent Gold Coast card for Saturday has been moved to the hallowed turf of Corbould Park on the Sunshine Coast, and among the races to be moved include the time-honoured BAT OUT OF HELL... which sadly will be run over the 1000 metres instead of the usual 900 metres due to track limitations.
Owing to the aforementioned biblical rainfall, The Coast, the Takeover Target Stakes and the Gosford Gold Cup, due for Gosford as the feature NSW meeting of the day, have been moved to Newcastle, a decision that was only made on Thursday afternoon, because nobody visits Newcastle by choice.
And, this Saturday will also mark the last meeting at Ascot until October with the Rogan Josh Stakes, although they're not going to be missing much at Belmont, considering the next time we'll see a game at Optus Stadium on a Saturday isn't until June 1st, so they can't sucker in a few Eagles fans.
So it's on to Crazy Craig, and to be honest after seeing his form last week, dear old Craig needs a spell after being up and about since February and ploughing through an entire Summer & Autumn carnival, with varying degrees of success...
But with the Queensland Carnival fast closing in, he just couldn't just go a week without letting the Crazy Clan down, so he's back and putting his Good Luck Charm to use!
P(r)ick No.1: Elphinstone (No.2, Barrier 1) in Race 4 at Caulfield (MR4), 1:15pm AEST
1600m 3YO Handicap
Trainers: Tony & Calvin McEvoy, Jockey: Jaylah Kennedy (a3), 57.5kg
Hello hello hello everybody it's Craaaaaazy Craig, TBFB, Scratchie King of Bairnsdale, and all throughout this week I've been getting threatening letters from fans, all of whom seem to be named Crazy Colin, asking me if I've got a Mother's Day present ready for Sunday...
Yes I have knackers, I've been giving out Mother's Day presents for the last 3 bloody weeks by dropping $100 notes in front of mothers with prams across Bairnsdale!
Anyway, completely ignoring what I didn't achieve last Saturday, we're straight ahead to this Saturday, and I'll start off with a rare sighting of Caulfield, where I typically don't like betting because it has split-personality disorder, often confusing itself between Caulfield and The Heath, and I think we could see some Henry Mancini in action around about lunchtime...
Because it'll be The Baby Elphinstone Walk!
P(r)ick No.2: Chicago Storm (No.6, Barrier 8) E/W in Race 7 at Morphetville (AR7), 3:22pm ACST
1600m Fillies & Mares Group 3 The Cummings Stakes
Trainer: David Aldridge, Jockey: Carleen Hefel, 55.5kg
The Cummings Stakes, another bloody race named after Bart Cummings...
Why don't they just name the Melbourne Cup after him, considering he owned the bloody thing for 40 years!
Anyway, Chicago Storm has won it's last 2 starts, so there's no better way to end that streak than for me to end that streak, set to the sounds of a band who just happened to be named Chicago, with the appropriately titled IF YOU LEAVE ME NOW.
Coincidentally, the opening lines:
"If you leave me now You'll take away the biggest part of me Ooh-ooh-hoo, no Baby, please don't go"
Could be used to describe how geldings feel when they get their bits chopped off!
P(r)ick No.3: Sowar (No.4, Barrier 1) E/W in Race 7 at Ascot, 3:20pm AWST (5:20)
Enjoy your weekend folks, stay safe, stay negative, KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD, and remember, I'm Crazy Craig, and that's why they call me Craaaaaazy Craig!
