VERDICT – 5/5

PROS -
1) The film is set during World War II and follows German submarine U-96 and her crew, as they set out on a hazardous patrol in the Battle of the Atlantic fighting bombardment of depth charges from British Destroyers. The crew aims to reach La Rochelle by Christmas Eve which they did eventually, only to be killed by British planes bombs killing them in the dock.
2) Ultimate submarine adventure.
3) Wolfgang Petersen - the master of sea horror.

CONS -
1) Werner the war correspondent.
2) The director's cut is a snoozefest with a 209 minutes run-time.
