When a new name comes around into the underground that is actually able to deliver something that feels fresh and exciting, it's not likely that such an act is going to be easily let go for one reason or another. We're not wont to let go of quality once we find it, and that was certainly the case when Inconcessus Lux Lucis came to us with the seven-year gap since their last full-length album a real travesty by all accounts. But now it is finally that Inconcessus Lux Lucis returns to us in peak form to show us that the unholy magic still blesses the act with all the splendor, menace, and hypnotic power that comes with being true masters of your dark craft.
Bands like this are well and truly few and far between. Where many seek to try and implement some new element into their particular craft to make for a more interesting and engaging, there just aren't many that can deliver on such a concept. As part of the immense minority, Inconcessus Lux Lucis is an exemplary act that not only defies much of the conventions of what we think of typical black metal, but they make their sound truly their own. We've seen the band's glorious evolution unfold over the years, but it is with every given facet of "Temples Colliding in Fire" that Inconcessus Lux Lucis has certifiably reached a peak unlike anything else that can be claimed throughout the sprawling underground! Seven tracks of the most devilish form of intoxication through the most seductive of songwriting and truly gripping riffage, "Temples Colliding in Fire" is nigh on bombastic without exception from beginning to end with nothing able to stand in the way of the esoteric brand of black metal with a supremely potent dosage of heavy metal that Inconcessus Lux Lucis may as well trademark at this point. A dark odyssey that can be likened to very few others out there, the seven testaments of darkness that are held within here are not to be underestimated lest their immense power forcibly worm their way into your subconsciousness to succumb to the melodies that sing of the flames licking your heels and the shadows that seek the light of your very soul.
Plenty have tried to subvert expectations in black metal but it's only on the rarest of occasions are we met with creations like "Temples Colliding in Fire". This is a record destined for cult greatness as the legend of Inconcessus Lux Lucis grows with time while their dark magics and blasphemy become all the more potent and intoxicating as more acolytes worship the power behind this act. A magnificent piece that will stand fantastically tall above the competition this year and many after, "Temples Colliding in Fire" is the transcript of hell we simply cannot turn ourselves away from.
