Quickly can a name rise through the underground should the right circumstances arise, but rarely does everything come together in such a perfect form that offers a magnificent journey the likes of which simply cannot be denied. We've seen plenty of names achieve that excellence as they rocket through the very underground, but such a thing tends to take time across many years. On rare occasions, though, we witness a name rise on such a scale that can only be considered meteoric. Out of all the names black metal has been graced with lately, Inherits the Void is certainly one that comes to mind with the act's third full-length album in four years seeing the act's rise to prominence only continue.

It's only natural that a band would evolve their sound overtime even if the changes from one release to the next are negligible at times. We've seen countless iterations of acts trying their best to hone their particular craft overtime with effects ranging from wild success to outright failure with the former always being a sight to behold no matter what band in whatever style we're dealing with at the moment. Inherits the Void had already come a long way with its particular brand of black metal by the time it released its last album, "The Impending Fall of the Stars", at the beginning of last year where more threads and foundations were laid for the solo act to capitalize off of. In every given form, "Scars of Yesteryears" does far more than seize the opportunity its predecessor offers. The absolute entirety of this record feels like a love letter to the Swedish and French black metal scenes while never once afraid to offer moments derived from the worlds of doom and death metal while always putting the personality of Inherits the Void at the forefront of a sound that can just as easily be hypnotically atmospheric at it can be intoxicatingly melodic. A fantastic amalgamation that shows off just how far Inherits the Void has come in practically no time at all, "Scars of Yesteryears" should damn near blindside any who come before its awesome might! Each track holds a special kind of magic that should not be easily dismissed for any reason whatsoever with the very potency of this splendor at a constant high that is more than enough to keep you rooted in place for the absolute entirety of "Scars of Yesteryears" and well after its closing.

It's one thing to grow over time. What Inherits the Void has achieved here cannot be viewed as anything less than evolution of the most magnificent kind. A massive step forward in damn near every aspect to make for a tremendous effort of black metal that's as gripping as it is dynamic, "Scars of Yesteryears" is sure to be a standout creation for the mastermind behind Inherits the Void no matter whatever is to follow.

"Scars of Yesteryears" releases on June 21st via Avantgarde Music!
