I build a temple for worship collect each roadside stone, each wayward lonely thing Patron of the homesick I call the neglected I make beauty I polish every line and scar, a constellation blooming like jasmine fragrant and full wafting, curling, kohl-lined incense and candlestick I ask for supplication Every arch and corner sighing You and I, both to our knees My forehead to my feet My lips to my feet Your lips, my many covetous yearnings If your god is a jealous god Then I am a yearning god a wanting god Who wants for veneration Ten disciples, ten conversions The road-weary enchanted offer up hymns and chantings Give me my hungry, bring me my sick My needs are for kneading Four loaves, a small silver fish speckled in moonlight Swim upstream and find The flesh ripens when devoured What is discarded grows divine.
