NO ROAD HOME - John Fram (Releasing July 23rd, 2024)
Book Description:
For years, single father Toby Tucker has done his best to keep his sensitive young son, Luca, safe from the bigotry of the world. But when Toby marries Alyssa Wright—the granddaughter of a famed televangelist known for his grandiose, Old Testament preaching—he can't imagine the world of religion, wealth, and hate that he and Luca are about to enter.
A trip to the Wright family's compound in sun-scorched Texas soon turns hellish when Toby realizes that Alyssa and the rest of her brood might have some very strange plans for Toby and his son. The situation only grows worse when a freak storm cuts off the roads and the family patriarch is found murdered, stabbed through the heart on the roof of the family's mansion.
Suspicion immediately turns to Toby, but when his son starts describing a spectral figure in a black suit lurking around the house with unfinished business in mind, Toby realizes this family has more than murder to be afraid of. And as the Wrights close in on Luca, no one is prepared for the lengths Toby will go in the fight to clear his name and protect his son.
My Thoughts: 5/5 stars
What are you looking forward to reading this summer?? Well, if this isn't on your TBR yet, fix that immediately!
This is such a hard book to review. Mostly because I don't want to spoil it, and there are some CRAZY twists in there that I don't want to ruin. Even with John warning me, I was not prepared for what happened 🤯 I never could have predicted the turns this book took. With thrillers and suspense novels being so predictable lately, it was so much fun not having a single prediction be correct. There are definitely horror feels to this, but nothing too intense, so don't let that deter you if you aren't the biggest horror fan.
Broken up into seven parts and told, mostly, from Toby's POV. He and his son, Luca, are going to his new wife's family compound. Her grandfather, Jerome, is a famous televangelist, and her whole family is involved in the church and his empire. Toby feels that the compound and everyone in it are a possible danger to his son, and things really ramp up after Jerome is found stabbed to death.
I can't say anything else without definitely ruining things. Buckle up and set aside some time because you'll fly through this 400-page book. If you have an early copy, read it now. Otherwise, get that preorder in because you need this ASAP.
