Blurb:
I went into the wilderness in search of the person the town calls Wild Man.
Living on his own since he was a small boy, he raised himself.
When I found him, it wasn't the experience I expected. He wasn't what I expected.
A savage, more animal than man. Pure instinct was how he survived.
With his hand wrapped around my throat, he said only one word.
"Mine."
Then he took me to his tree hut and wouldn't let me go. He kept me naked and tied me to him with a rope. He was an anchor around me while I slept. He fed me by hand and forced me to bathe him.
Those are the tamer things he did. The others were much more… explicit.
I didn't want to be there. I didn't want his touch, although my body called me a liar.
He's a primitive uncaged animal who claims I'm his, and he's hellbent on getting me pregnant.
No matter how much I fight him, he'll never let me leave. I was his and he'd do anything to keep me.
Maybe in the end, he'll make me just as wild as him.
And it'll be me who won't let him go.
Tropes - Tarzan retelling, captive, abduction, savaged and uncivilized hero, alpha male, touch her and die, dub/con, non/con, he falls first, fisting, blood play, tied to him
My 4* Review:
The Wild Man by Alex Grayson is a Tarzan retelling. It is a dark and very steamy romance with many TW's you should be aware of. The beginning is graphic and leads you to wonder how she could ever feel anything but hatred towards him. With understanding comes forgiveness and a love she never expected. Will she be able to keep her Wild Man and can he keep his 'momor.'
Everlee Adair has been researching the mysterious Wild Man for years and is determined to uncover his story for the magazine she works for. Her dad and four brothers are all very protective of her so she knows they won't like her going off to try and find him. She packs up and heads to the Black Ridge National Forest after persuading her dad she'll regularly keep in touch. Does he even exist or it is a myth and if he does is he dangerous?
Wild Man has lived in the wilderness since he was five years old. He has had to adapt to survive so he really is an uncivilised and savage man. It is up to you to decide if he is worthy of the love she finally gives him because the start is brutal and raw as he is all alpha male coming across a woman for the first time. He has only seen how animals behave so his way is savage and unrelenting. In his mind she is now his and no one is going to take her away from him so he keeps her captive. Claims her as his mate as his instincts take over.
He turns out to be absolutely gorgeous but he forces her to do things and her initial reaction is to hate him. She has to decide if she can accept his ways and try to understand why he does what he does while she waits to escape or continue to fight him every step of the way. She quickly realises he won't let her go and will kill anyone who comes to take her away.
She gets used to the nudity he insists on and slowly starts to adjust to his back to nature lifestyle. She gets confused when there is more pleasure than pain involved and her feelings towards him change. What will happen if her family manage to track her down, will she want to return home or has she embraced his lifestyle and want to stay with him.
"It's just his type of romance is more raw, rougher."
We learn about what actually happened to him all those years ago and all he's done since to survive. My heart went out to him and I could see how her feelings for him developed. I was pleased the author included a few characters from his POV as it definitely helped and explained a few things. I loved the interactions with the wolf family and his logic over why Ever had found him.
It was hard to connect with the main characters at the start because everything happened so quickly. I found it jumped from her leaving home, straight into finding him, with very little about her searching for him. Then he abducts her and we have the graphic details of all she experiences. When things calmed down a bit, I started to enjoy the book more, however, at the end everything happens very quickly again. There is a satisfying epilogue to finish their story, which overall was an interesting look at the Tarzan tale.
