Liv Eli is a singer/songwriter who creates haunting, thought-provoking songs that blend both electronic and acoustic elements for striking results. Since releasing her debut album Brother in 2020, a tribute to her late sibling, she has continued on her own unique musical journal, leading to the release this year of The Struggle for Peace of Mind.
The stand-out song on this album is the startlingly title "17 Million Fucking Flies". The imagery of the title itself is powerful, but lyrics like "the flies have gotten to my brain, so I can't hear a thing, if I tried" delivers the track's powerful metaphor in a way that few writers would dare venture. Other tracks on the album, like the moody "Goodbye Innocence", with its industrial drums and ghostly synths, is the type of material that has made artists like Ani DiFranco and PJ Harvey beloved. The approach to songwriting is uncompromising, yet there's still a melody that draws you in.
