Blurb: It starts with a shocking accusation . . .
Stephanie and Patrick are recently married, with new-born twins. While Stephanie struggles with the disorienting effects of sleep deprivation, there's one thing she knows for certain - she has everything she ever wanted.
Then a woman from his past arrives and makes a horrifying allegation about his first wife. He always claimed her death was an accident - but she says it was murder.
He insists he's innocent, that this is nothing but a blackmail attempt. But is Patrick telling the truth? Or has Stephanie made a terrible mistake?
How will it end?
Review: Now where do I start? This was my first novel by this author and my what a way to start. There's so much to take in, you get one curve ball and then bam there's another and another. With a number of things linking these characters seamlessly together. Stephanie and Patrick are new parents with twins suffering from colic meaning the couple are not getting much sleep. Factor into that a case of blackmail and sewing seeds of doubt in a once happy marriage. Sleep deprivation has a lot to answer for, and the couple are seemingly at odds because of that. Patrick is also letting his boss down too which changes the mix and adds to the narrative.
Shari drip feeds us information with a number of twists and turns along the way that makes this book compelling reading. I was listening to it and my oh my I didn't know who I could trust. I had one thought and then something happens and that changes and changes again. Erica has to be mentioned as she is an out and out bitch. She's obsessed with money and goes about getting it by lying, stealing and blackmailing on a number of occasions. She is ultimately the thread that ties this whole story together and from the start she simply cannot be trusted by anyone. There is nothing she won't do or sell for money.
There's so many things that make you doubt and suspect each character but I wasn't expecting how this novel played out. What I will say is Shari had me until the end…I have a few more of her books in my Libby library maybe I'll strike while the iron is hot and listen to another….
