Crazy Craig's Picks of the Day: 15th June

JTithers

June 14

Based on a series of plausible events in a regional Victorian town

Well friends, today is the day of the Stradbroke Handicap, the biggest race in Queensland, a race that someone once thought was run on Stradbroke Island, but is actually named after Lord Stradbroke, which really narrows it down because there's been several hundred Lord Stradbrokes.

The other big race of the day at Eagle Farm is the Group 1 JJ Atkins for the 2-year-olds, a race I have not even bothered looking at the form for, much to my detriment, and the lesser races of the day include the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes, named after Bart Cummings' former Stradbroke winner who went on to win the Cox Plate & Australian Cup, and the Brisbane Cup over the 3200m, restored to its former glory a few years ago, although you very much doubt any horse will ever join Viewed as being the only winners of both the Brisbane Cup and the Melbourne Cup, let alone in the same year.

Other boring races include the Winter Cup at Rosehill, where it'll probably be a Heavy 8, and at Belmont we have something called the Group 3 Strickland Stakes, named after Buck Strickland, the owner of Strickland Propane in Arlen, Texas.

So it's on to Crazy Craig, and with his one lazy tip last week.... THE MAD MAN ACTUALLY PICKED A WINNER.

That's all I have to say about that, so here's Elvis Presley.

P(r)ick No.1: Razors (No.3, Barrier 5) in Race 5 at Eagle Farm (BR5), 2:03pm AEST

1600m 3YO Group 3 Gunsynd Classic

Trainer: James Cummings, Jockey: James McDonald, 57kg

Hello hello hello everybody it's Craaaaaazy Craig, TBFB, Scratchie King of Bairnsdale, BACK ON MY THRONE after only bothering to put up 1 horse last week due to some time constraints surrounding the long weekend, and wouldn't you know it, Fat Roy Slim, or whatever the hell his name was, went on to win at Belmont!

How crazy is that - 1 winner from 1 runner, I should try that crap more often!

Anyhow, it is a big day at Eagle Farm, so I'd better throw in something from early in the card, where there's something called Razors running in the Gunsynd Classic, named after the greatest Grey in the history of Australian racing, and if you ask me Razors is an appropriate name for a horse, because a razor and a horse have got a fair bit in common...

They're both costly to invest in, very rarely do you find one that's of a decent quality, and they can harm you quite easily!

Of course, it could just be named after AFL umpire Razor Ray Chamberlain!

That's what Crazy Colin says to me when he's not abusing me...

YOU NEED TO CALM DOWN, WE DON'T TALK TO ONE ANOTHER LIKE THAT CRAZY CRAIG!

Says the bloke that walks into my backyard and steals the stubbies from my fridge!

P(r)ick No.2: Franz Josef (No.6, Barrier 3) in Race 9 at Rosehill (SR9), 3:45pm AEST

1500m BM78 Handicap

Trainer: Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou, Jockey: Kerrin McEvoy, 58.5kg

Franz Josef, he could be named after that Austrian fella that got shot in Sarajevo in 1914, but on another note, Number 6, Race 9 you say...

It's a Sex Position tip!

P(r)ick No.3: Rockin' Rupert (No.1, Barrier 5) in Race 7 at Belmont (BR7)

1200m 60+ Rating Petaluma Handicap

Trainers: Sean & Jake Casey, Jockey: Keshaw Dhurun (a1.5)

Keshaw... isn't he the bloke that sang Wouldn't It Be Good?

On another note, with a name like Rockin' Rupert, here's Michael Jackson!

He rocks in the tree tops all day long
Hoppin' and a-boppin' and a-singing his song
All the little birds on Jaybird Street
Love to hear the Rupert go tweet, tweet, tweet

Rockin' Rupert (tweet, tweet, tweet)
Rock, Rock, Rockin' Rupert (tweet, tweedle-lee-dee)
Blow Rockin' Rupert, 'cause we're really gonna rock tonight!

Yes Rockin' Rupert, blow out to 5/1!

Enjoy your weekend folks, stay safe, stay negative, KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD, and remember, I'm Crazy Craig, and that's why they call me Craaaaaazy Craig!
