"Friends are great. Friends with benefits are better.
Xander wants to show off his new car to his friend, Luka. The plan was to take Luka out for a night time drive, but the moment Luka hops into the car the two go for a different sort of ride.
'Going 69 in a 50 zone' is a sweet and erotic short story adapted from the game, Wrong Number, featuring the two main characters. Luka, an aromantic working adult who likes to have a good time, and Xander, a bisexual university student who is new to the idea of sleeping with someone they're not dating.
You do not need to have played the game to understand what happens in this book."
I got an ARC of this book.
I have not played the Wrong Number game. So I am curious if these characters hold up to their counterparts. I am unable to review it as fully as I would normally do for something like this. So enjoy my thoughts on smut!
The book is lacking any form of character development and description. That seems on purpose in this case, but did make it a little difficult since I have not engaged with the source material. If you just want two people going at it, then it won't impact your read at all. For me, it left me feeling like it was pretty generic.
Now onto the fun part: the smut! The title does give some of it away. I appreciated the pun a bit more after reading it than I did before. The sex was sudden and decently graphic. I was not expecting some of the activities to happen. How did they do everything in a Ford Fiesta? They are tiny cars and unless these guys are also tiny, then it would have been super uncomfortable to be climbing around like they did. Maybe that is just my bad back talking and completely possible. Definitely made me feel old! But the idea of that happening so publically was an added element that wasn't completely played with. It just lingered on the outside in a fun way.
There was no condom use or conversation, but it was established that they had fooled around before. Made that conversation feel less relevant, but I wouldn't be me if I didn't mention it. Outside of the location considerations, everything was physically possible! That is huge for me in a sex scene. The activities made sense in an actually doing them way. I am always impressed when that happens in sex scenes. The number of wild sex scenes I have read that make me shout "PENISES DON'T DO THAT" is too high. I appreciate when the sex scenes make sense. Keeps me focused instead of being pulled out of the fantasy.
Was this the best smut I have read? Not really. It is far from the worst. My main issues come down to the length. I needed a bit more to really dig into this. So if you want a quick, hot car play scene, this is for you. If you need more, know there is a book two so that might solve half my issues!
