Despite having gobs of library books I can work through. Despite 70ish hard copies waiting to be read, I'm instead devouring a series I ready 5 years ago.
Thought 1: The whole series I think pulls off some neat tricks. It's not a terribly action-packed series. Really more of a slow-burn. But that doesn't keep it from pulling me in (this contrasts with Fragile Threads of Magic, which is good and has far more action, but still feels like a slower read, hence I'm reading more Tearling instead of finishing a library book I've been working on sporadically for months).
Thought 2: Pieces of the book are not fun to read right now. It actually had some parallels with The Kite Runner, and its commentary on a dystopian government in the future of the US feels too prescient at the moment.
Thought 3: So many of the characters are intriguing. I'm not sure there's been a single POV character I haven't at least found compelling and really only 1 I wouldn't be game to spend an entire book with, and that's not because it wouldn't be good. It would just hurt too much.
Thought 4: More people should have read this series. It may be too late for it to really get to the masses, but if someone could option a three-season show, I think some great things could come from it.
Anyway, 5-star series. Highly recommend to others.
