It's 1939 and the TV is in color Bring your bugle, boy Say bye to your blue lover
The bugle tunes block radio news So we watch TV Now technicolor is free
It's live this time As they die this time We cry this time in real-time
But technicolor dies away Soon enough it looks out of date So we disregard the films they made And say we've learned to do better
The same words, same phrases, same shame and same hate Different voices or targets to renew the slate New bugle boy or dazzling dove Distracting the airways by singing of love
But the radio vs. tv divide News reaching out to form different sides Enjoy the music, enjoy the ride Or watch the war brew from boiling pride It hasn't begun yet but kids, come inside We don't know what befalls the Fall of '39
