Synopsis:
Easton
I do what I have to so I can survive.
There's no instruction manual that comes with being a foster kid, only a will to live and succeed. And after all I've done to survive, it's all gone in the blink of an eye when I get framed and sentenced to five years in prison.
My only ticket out is through the pen pal program. At first, the girl writing me is only a means to an end—my freedom. Except somewhere along the line, she becomes my sweet little bird. Without her, I'll be condemned to more time in prison. With her, I get the chance to fly.
But when I'm out, will she be able to see past my mistakes and unveil the man beneath that desperately just wants to love her?
Harley
To graduate with my master's in journalism, I have to join the pen pal program, where I'm linked up with a prisoner and have to exchange letters for a year.
I need him to graduate. He needs me to get out of that hell.
This is supposed a quick, one-page letter once a month. Except a lot can happen in a year when he's the only person that listens to me. Everything changes. Not only does East become my best friend, but suddenly, he's the keeper of almost all my secrets.
When he's released, will I be strong enough to let him see all my demons and claim my heart, too?

TW/CW: eating disorder (bulimia)
The story starts off recounting the events that led up to him being arrested. He grew up in foster care without much in life but got a degree and is trying to get out of the dark life that sucked him in to survive until his foster brother set him up and got Easton sent to jail.
Skip ahead a few years, Easton's lawyer said that there is a pen pal program that would help reduce his sentence, and his pen pal ended being no other than Harley who signed up for the program as part of her graduate program to graduate.
Harley has no friends as her roommate had spread secretes that Harley had told her in confident when they had first met and somehow Harley and Easton connect over through the words they send back and forth.
They met up in real life and sparks fly but is the stress and secrete of the real life to much for their beginning relationship to handle?
So, this is a short story of just over a hundred pages, so it is a quick read. About a quarter of the book is told through the exchange of letters between Easton and Harley where we learn about their past and present life.
There were things that happened throughout the book that didn't really make sense like when Harley and her roommate had suddenly made up after her roommate found out that her boyfriend had cheated on her, or just how conveniently Easton's life had changed after he got out of prison (can't same much else about that with out revealing a big plot twist).
Overall, it was a decent story but there were just some things that seemed to happen out of no where or seemed to have happen a little to quickly even for a story.
Happy reading until next time,
