The Auckland Scooby Gang and our favourite private investigator Alexa Crowe (Lucy Lawless) have finally returned with its fourth Season. My Life Is Murder comes with more baffling and bizarre murder mysteries in store for the show's hardcore fans. There's never a lack of originality to each episode and like an old vintage of fine wine it just keeps getting better and better.
At its core, the series is about how former detective Alexa Crowe picks up the pieces after her husband Gary's sudden death. She's a passionate, albeit temperamental bread maker and a quick-witted retired detective who's not afraid of breaking the rules and ruffling feathers in her sleuthing methods. Along the way, she has gained her chosen family or whanau. There's tech genius Madison (Ebony Vagulans), local café owner Reuben (Joe Naufahu), Auckland homicide detective Harry (Rawari Jobe), her brother, a recently, reformed ex-con artist Will (Martin Henderson) and who can forget Alexa's grumpy feline companion, Chowder (Zeppelin).
My Life Is Murder has successfully managed to keep the audience hooked with the superb chemistry among the main cast members while nailing absolutely brilliant and cheerful performances. There's also that key element of the entertaining technique of story development for the weekly murder mysteries. The audience can also appreciate the personal growth of the main character Alexa Crowe, played by iconic New Zealand native, actress Lucy Lawless. It makes Alexa's character all the more relatable, endearing and engaging, as she tries to balance her grief with her own brand of coping. Beneath her humorous bravado lies the loyal support of her chosen family. She has lost the love of her life but has gained much more in the process. And we must not fail to mention the crafty methods that Alexa employs as she and the gang solve murders.
Lawless maintains season three's wardrobe change, opting for brighter signature and statement wardrobe choices including a noticeably, eye-catching stylish, Shrek-green handbag. Noticeably missing from this season is Beth (Tatum Warren-Ngata). New Zealand actress Tatum Warren-Ngata was brought in last season to play the role of Beth, when co-star Ebony Vagulans (Madison) was out for the count with Covid. Beth was a fellow tech genius that seemed to display slightly superior skills to that of Madison. However, she was incredibly likeable and was missed. Although, I can see why she probably wasn't brought back since it would take away some of Madison's thunder.
Young actress Nell Fisher who was introduced as Alexa's spunky niece, Olivia Crowe (Will's daughter) was a greatly missed opportunity in my opinion. I was really looking forward to seeing more of the aunt/niece dynamic this season, especially since Olivia idolised her aunt and has proven to have inherited the crime-solving gene. Another element that didn't go unnoticed was Will Crowe (Martin Henderson) who, despite being counted as a main cast member, doesn't make an appearance until the very last two episodes of the season titled "The Widows Club". However, his performance was not only amusing, but more than suitable chemistry opposite his onscreen sibling (Lawless).
My Life Is Murder Season 4 has a lot of surprises in store for audiences, with even weirder murder mysteries to tingle the brain cells. There's fun to be had by all when you make the time to watch this riveting, bingeworthy series. However, the last two episodes are where it's at because Alexa is forced to confront an unexpected demon from her past. The season finale was more than perfect with a sentimental closing sequence that's a guaranteed happy tearjerker moment, leaving fans with a warm feeling of hope and sense of familial bond among friends that most of us long for.

Dark Alice has an old soul and a curious mind. I believe that anyone can be a hero and that the good guys should always win! I dislike cruelty to animals and think that they have far superior qualities to humans. My motto is there is no future without the past. I also have a weird penchant for Paranormal TV shows even though the slightest sound makes me jump. I enjoy writing reviews and throwing in fun facts to pique the readers' curiosity.
