"Christmas is the time for giving, and what's the perfect gift someone can give their friend with benefits?
Luka came across the perfect present for Xander, and after inviting him over to his place, Xander felt obligated to return the favour. But what happens when one of them receives a sweet and wholesome present, while the other gets something... less wholesome?
'On the 69th day of Xmas' is a sweet and erotic short story adapted from the game, Wrong Number, featuring the two main characters. Luka, an aromantic working adult who likes to have a good time, and Xander, a bisexual university student who is new to the idea of sleeping with someone they're not dating.
You do not need to have played the game to understand what happens in this book."
I got an ARC of this book.
The first book left me a little confused at who the characters were, but this one was wildly different. Not only did I learn what the guys looked like, but I felt like I got to know their personalities a bit more. This felt much more complete. It made the sex just sing. I wanted to see them enjoy themselves. I wanted to see them get together. I wanted to enjoy every single moment.
The sex was kinkier than book one. It was not full on BDSM or anything that would be all that shocking. It was very light bondage. That doesn't feel like a spoiler, more of a tease. I enjoyed how there were some clearly awkward moments. They felt intentionally added to show the growing distance between what the men are feeling for each other. It felt like character development and great showing of emotions, which isn't always present in smut.
Now the sex educator moment: there was lube, there was stretching, there was talk of prepping before hand. There were condoms! I am so happy for all of this. It was not done in a lecture way, instead it felt like a natural part of the story and like it just heightened the sex. It allowed for care to be shown and the worries of anxious aroaces like me to not worry about the safety aspects. Very well done!
I really look forward to book three. I have not been told there is a book three, but with how the stories have been progressing it feels like Chan has so much more in store for readers. There was a nice set up at the end for a book three and a big emotional talk. I am really excited. I have to get this game.
4 out of 5 stars. I would recommend this book.
You can buy the book here.
