Kindle Spring Challenge mystery bookmark badge Skyreader requires a sci-fi or fantasy book be read. I searched through the list of possible books and found Scones and Slayers to accomplish this task. Little did I realize that in my kindle app, I forgot to mark a book "read" that I finished on my Kindle Paperwhite (which is on airplane mode most times). Somehow, the bookmark badge was achieved and I didn't need to read Scones and Slayers.
But I was in the middle of the story and I can't just stop reading without knowing what happens. So I finished the book anyway! It's a cute story about Blue Moon Bay where witches, vampires, and shifters all live in one community along with "ordinals."
There's different types of witches: green, bronze, and gray for starters. Hazel, a Green Witch, is trying to protect her vampire friend, Britt, from vampire hunters. Except no one knows who these hunters are.
The vampires, shifters, and witches get together to solve this problem together. They agree to work together even though they dislike each other. There's a ransom and there's videos of a witch that was taken hostage. Hazel, Britt, and several others are working to solve these mysteries.
Deputy Elliot is heading this investigation. He's sexy and attractive and Hazel has always had eyes for the shifter. She's doing her part to help and she's asked to be present at some of these meetings because as a Green Witch, Hazel is neutral and a calming spirit while emotions are running high.
My favorite character in this story is Hazel. She's not only owns an amazing bakery, but she has lots of friends (and enemies) in Blue Moon Bay. She's stubborn, yet observant; thoughtful, yet spontaneous. She's spunky and possibly a little crazy. Regardless, I enjoy her character!
I give this unexpected read 5 out of 5 tiaras because I enjoyed the plot and the characters. Thank you Kindle Spring Challenge for forcing me read outside my usual genres!
