The sixth in the series. It was interesting, because Electra had almost been the most controversial of all the sisters.
She was famous. A lot of people throughout the story of the other five sisters, would connect the name D'Apliese with Electra. She seemed to be the one who fitted in the least, who seemed close to almost none of her sisters and just upset everyone.
I say she's almost the most controversial, because the other one was CeCe, who seemed so bossy and dominating, mostly over Star, that it was always going to be interesting learning their stories. The thing is, there will always be two sides to every story. CeCe's proved this. Now it's time to learn more about Electra.
We had hints that things weren't great. She was very cut off from her family and had proved to be a difficult person with an on-off relationship and then a close connection to Zed, who had already had a relationship with Maia, the consequences of which, for her, were life changing. Then he also met Tiggy and just hounded her. There was also a point, I think it was during Ally's story, that Electra was seen secretly swigging from a bottle of vodka.
From the start of her story, we know she's not well. She's alone, she's struggling to cope with everything. People don't want to work for her for long. She can't seem to connect with everyone. At first she has no interest in finding out her past. But when her sisters have discovered everything about who they are, and Electra receives a letter and picture from someone, she starts on the path of discovery.
Electra's story is a long one. It takes a long time to get to the bottom of her history, because this story isn't just about her past. She has to sort herself out before she can hear the full story of Cecily and the tale that leads to her grandmother, her mother and life in New York.
She meets some new, decent, people and I think she discovers who she really is. She found fame very young and as she was always a bit of a wild child, it's no wonder that she went down a bad path. This is about her getting on the right track.
The historical bit is a little predictable and sad. But it's interesting and the character moves around a bit.
The book was, overall, good. But it was maybe too long. It just seemed to take an age to get to the bottom of everything and I had to put the speed up pretty high several times because it just felt like it was all taking far too long.
