For all that has become accomplished throughout the possibilities of black metal, it can oftentimes feel as though we're surrounded by acts that are retreading the same ground ad nauseum. There's still magnificence to be had in this well-worn paths, don't get me wrong, but there's a special magic to be tapped into should a band fully commit themselves to the atypical and downright otherworldly. Todesstoss has been one of those names that have championed such unorthodox insanity for several years now. After a long seven-year silence, Todesstoss returns to remind us why they're a name in a league of their own with few able to even be likened to what this act can be.

This is one of those acts that simply labelling as "black metal" would be to make that phrase pull an awful lot of weight. In no small way, Todesstoss has been using black metal as a vessel for a sound that is ever-transformative and something that never once is ever content to remain in the same sonic territory for long. The band's brand of intensity has always been more than a little esoteric and formless with loads of insanity along the way, and it's throughout the sixty-plus-minute whiplasher that is "Das Liebweh-Dekret" that we see that menace come to fruition in a truly powerful form that holds nothing back in every given instance. A raw but increasingly angular performance that can be as enrapturing as it can be mortifying to lay eyes on, the twenty-five years of experience that Todesstoss has garnered through much trials, tribulations, and endless experimentation. Boasting a seemingly scant track list made of just six songs, the sheer shock value of what "Das Liebweh-Dekret" is constantly dealing in is the exact sort of madness that Todesstoss has become known for with truly nothing off of the table in the vast entirety of this record from its nuances to a bold composition clocking in just shy under an eye-catching twenty-five minutes.

Where endless opportunities presented themselves, Todesstoss has seized virtually all of them in such a fashion that cannot be seen as anything less than ambitious in its manic state. By and large, "Das Liebweh-Dekret" is a creation not meant for the weak nor is it meant for those who aren't ready to be challenged musically.

"Das Liebweh-Dekret" releases on July 19th via I, Voidhanger Records!
