When you ask the modern dweller in the underground what happens when death metal is taken to its extremes, there are a few names that surely come to mind. In terms of the experimental and downright disturbing, Ulcerate should absolutely be one of the first names that comes to mind for all intents and purposes. Having been a rising name in the underground practically since the start of the millennium, things have only been looking up for Ulcerate. For their seventh full-length album, that proceeds to be no different.
As if still riding off the extra-dimensional high that came with their last album, "Stare Into Death and Be Still", the expectations for whatever was to come next from Ulcerate were understandably high given all the the band has managed to achieve in its own little personal section of the underground. Without so much as a shred of hesitation, Ulcerate seized to the maximum. Not only has their reputation only been further cemented with this record, but all that was brought to the table for this record sees Ulcerate become truly undeniable masters of reality-altering death metal where there's a real no-holds-barred attitude alongside caustic songwriting that doesn't leave anything to chance nor does it leave any room for mistakes, weakness, or the tiniest shred of hope. In every given instance, "Cutting the Throat of God" lives up to its name. A fascinatingly cerebral experience that goes for everything beyond the throat as the flesh and the spirit are fair game for what Ulcerate goes for throughout the entirety of this creation that sees the act send the listener into a depraved downward spiral that chokes any semblance of light from your point of view to ensure that by the end of "Cutting the Throat of God" you are naught but a husk that is all but destined to live a feeble existence for the rest of what little days you have left before you.
Words can only do a work like this so much justice. Ulcerate has never been a name to underestimate for so much as a millisecond with their particularly deadly brand of death metal something that has drawn people to their performances for decades now, yet it's with everything that was summoned from the depths of humanity's seemingly unending depravity that "Cutting the Throat of God" has become yet another tremendous entry in a discography that has tons of chest hair to throw around. Where many have attempted greatness, Ulcerate makes it look as easy as breathing.
