Writing goals, especially when writing a novel, are very important.
Why? Instead of "writing a novel," setting small goals helps you break a large project down into easy steps.
Meaning, start with the basics. Write down what you want to happen in your story. Make an outline, then flesh it out a bit.
Then, sit down and write your first chapter.
Once you've done that, you'll have some momentum ...
... and you can build on it!
These are just the first few steps, but even though writing a novel is not easy, taking it one step at a time can make it seem much less intimidating.
