Blurb: When Joanna hears the footsteps behind her that every woman dreads, she makes a snap decision. She turns and she pushes, sending her pursuer tumbling down the steps to lie motionless on the floor.
Reveal - Calling 999, Joanna waits for the police to arrive. For judgment, for justice, whatever that may be. She just needs to hope her husband will stand beside her.
Conceal - She didn't mean to do it. She was scared, she panicked. And no one saw. No one will know. If she leaves now. If she keeps quiet, and prays silently to never hear that knock on the door....
Review: As I had booked to see Gillian McAllister at a Waterstones event alongside Louise Candlish I thought it would make sense to at least start listening to one of her stories. I found this one on the Libby library and I was almost instantly shouting at the audiobook telling Joanna what to do.
This is a truly interesting premise but it took me a little while to realise there's two sides to this, showing how Joanna's life would be dependent on what decision she actually makes.
Let me explain some context without going to far into the story Joanna and Laura were on their Friday night catch up. Queue a guy asking for a selfie the girls laughed took the photo and moved on. After all it was a girls night, queue the guy not getting the message and coming back to them. As the girls leave they go there separate ways and the usual let me know when your home is shared. As Joanna went on her way she heard footsteps behind her, as she sped up so did they?.
This was interesting but also a little confusing until I realised it was showing the reader both sides interlinked. With many reveals and conceals along the way. In this respect it may have been a little easier to gauge in reading on paper rather than the audiobook but I enjoyed the experience all the same.
This was my first introduction to Gillian's work at the event I purchased a copy of Wrong Place Wrong Time which I was lucky enough to get signed.
Anything You Do Say was the perfect introduction to this author. It also shares the impact of how our actions effect those around us as well as ourselves.
