BNNBRDS – Fluke

In the current year that we find ourselves in, psychedelia has more than certainly been given its fair due with all of the talent and splendor that has already been passed around across many different albums between several distinct bands. Even so, there's still more than enough room for further glory so long as a band manages to come around and deliver such magnificence. A brand new name is always welcome in such circumstances, and it's with their debut album that BNNBRDS seems to be quickly capitalizing on just such an opening.

While we find ourselves in a real halcyon year for all things regarding psychedelia no matter how heavy or trippy it takes its form, there's nothing that can match the raw magic of a band that manages to rise out of the woodwork of nothingness and seizes the opportunity to really impress and surprise. I never know what I'm going to find when I set myself to scouring the depths of Bandcamp, and that was no different tonight before I laid my eyes and ears upon what BNNBRDS has wrought for its impressive first album. By all accounts, "Fluke" is a record that is anything but. Every step taken throughout this record feels like one small stroke of intimate understanding of the craft after another with naught to be had but riffs, trippiness, and splendor in practically every given minute of these nine tracks. With real bounce and intoxicating rhythms almost as soon as the album gets moving, "Fluke" knows precisely how to enchant the soul and intoxicate the mind to become a real tour de force of what happens when new blood comes into the fold and manages to deliver on what feels like every possible front. Where many seek to get a proper foothold within the ever-growing realm of psychedelic rock and all that it has to offer, it is BNNBRDS that has accomplished the feat of not just starting off on the right foot, but succeeding where others work for years across multiple pieces in order to achieve.

Already starting off with loads of potential with all the powerful magic to match, BNNBRDS could not have presented a more engaging piece! The sprawling underground is always filled with bands hoping to make some sort of impact one way or another with few able to bring something of worth to the table, and I think it's safe to say that this trio has more than lived up to any standard one may have for a fresh act. Whatever is to follow, it's going to have some mighty big shoes to fill for all that "Fluke" has already accomplished for BNNBRDS.
