Even though he and Eden are no longer together that doesn't mean that Brooklyn still doesn't have feelings for her. They remain friends which allows them to co-parent the daughter they both love with little tension. He thought he was prepared to see Eden with another man but when that happens, he realizes that he has never stopped loving her and is further conflicted by the fact that their divorce was never finalized.
Eden has worked hard to create a new life for herself and their daughter after her marriage ended. Even though she has a new man in her life she has never completely gotten over her first love, but she isn't certain she is ready to attempt another try with Brooklyn as it is not only their hearts at stake but their daughter's as well.
