Cardiac Arrest – The Stench of Eternity

I find it quite fortunate that we live in the times that we do. The vast underground network of metal music has always been something to behold and respect for all of its potential and secrets around practically every given corner, but it feels as though we're currently in an era where the underground has never been in better shape. While we see tons of new names constantly crawling from the woodwork, it still allows us to bear witness to names that have been around since before the turn of the century with their sound the very definition of what it means to be old school. Plenty of names qualify for that madness with there always some new material on the horizon, and now it is yet again Cardiac Arrest's turn in the limelight to show us how their festering brand of death metal can still be nigh on compelling.

Thematically, this is death metal as it was in some of its earliest days with Cardiac Arrest amongst the bands that have long perfected the idea with time only further honing their madness to ensure that they have climbed the echelons of the underground with the proper fanbase to match. That's all well and good, but it means nothing if you don't deliver the devastating brand of sonic assault that death metal has become synonymous with. Cardiac Arrest has always been known to deliver both of those in absolute heaps, and "The Stench of Eternity" proves to be no different. A blistering whirlwind of ten tracks that hold nothing back as the gore and viscera of "The Stench of Eternity" is at a constant high whilst the aggressive riffs and meaty hooks of Cardiac Arrest are perpetually seeking new flesh to sink into while the screams of its victim echo hopelessly throughout the halls of torture that Cardiac Arrest has long held dominion over. It's a no-nonsense creation the likes of which we've all seen before throughout death metal, but it's by sticking to their guns and unyielding devotion to that old school sound that Cardiac Arrest manages to rise to the occasion and deliver a performance that I think many of us are constantly craving even if we're not aware of it. This is death metal unbastardized with nothing standing in its way to unfettered bloodbaths as far as the eye can see.

Death metal has been a beast that cannot be put down, and acts like Cardiac Arrest make up the backbone we simply cannot get enough of. Galloping riffs, horror unbound, and a clear mastery of what it means to be at the top of the food chain in the underground, "The Stench of Eternity" is that festering slab of pulsating death metal that works its way into your psyche and never once relinquishes. From the moment you step into the record, you are now a thrall of Cardiac Arrest and complete evisceration is now your only fate.
