Based on a series of plausible events in a regional Victorian town
So as a dodgy anti-virus update takes out the entire western world, on we go to the penultimate Saturday of the 2023-24 season, featuring great races such as:
The Listed Winter Challenge at Rosehill, and usually the Winter Challenge at Rosehill is to keep the track within the range of a Heavy 15 due to all the rain.
VRC Members' day, the feature event being the Deane Lester Flemington Cup over 2800m, named in honour of the great late form analyst from RSN, who provided enough winners to prove that Hot Chocolate were right when they said everyone's a winner.
The Group 3 Sires Produce at Morphetville, although by this stage the 2-year-olds are basically 3-year-olds without a carrot birthday cake to show for it.
And the Belmont Classic at Belmont, which is in Burswood, where I once had sunstroke and chundered in a taxi.
True story.
So it's on to Crazy Craig, back from his successful mission to get chucked out of multiple bowling clubs across Gipsland, and what a devastating blow it was last week as his only pick Dr Evil rocketed home at Randwick, made a humongous late lunge at Charming Legend...
And lost the photo by a flared nostril.
Anway, here's Elvis Aaron Presley to sing Good Luck Charm!
P(r)ick No.1: Age of Sail (No.2, Barrier 2) in Race 7 at Rosehill (SR7), 2:45pm AEST
2400m BM78 Handicap
Trainer: Kris Lees, Jockey: Nash Rawiller, 60kg
Hello hello everybody, it's Craaaaazy Craig, TBFB, Scratchie King of Bairnsdale, recovered from our weekend of terrorising everywhere in East Gippsland short of the Bairnsdale Safeway, and I still can't believe Dr Evil didn't win last week, although I can believe it, because you know what he's got.
A HEART AS BIG AS A BLOODY PEA.
But as I like to say, that was then and this is NOW, and we're going back to Sydney again, this time to Rosehill, which will go the way of Harold Park if Peter V'Landys has his way, and Race 7 sees the running of a Coalfields galloper who comes in 3rd Up, rock hard fit and ready for the 2400m, so much so his name suggests he needs some kind of musical accompaniment...
So ladies and gentlemen, here's ROCKIN' ROD STEWART!
The Foo Fighters P(r)ick: Big Me (No.16, Barrier 3) E/W in Race 9 at Flemington (MR9), 4:52pm AEST
1000m BM78 VRC Member Janet Kolotelo Plate
Trainer: Nick Ryan, Jockey: Damian Lane, 54.5kg
The first start in Australia for Big Me, by Your Song, so I can only assume his owner was a Foo Fighters fan, because that was one of the main songs from their debut album!
Fun fact about that song - As was the case of every song on the Foo Fighters' debut album, Dave Grohl (Who was then the only member of the Foo Fighters) wrote it, provided vocals and performed every instrument on the song... and the music video was filmed in Sydney, which you can tell by the yellow license plates!
P(r)ick No.3: Ice Pick Nick (No.7, Barrier 3) E/W in Race 9 at Belmont (PR9), 4:31pm AWST
1200m 72+ Rating Handicap
Trainer: Stefan Vahala, Jockey: Steven Parnham, 57.5kg
Ice Pick Nick has gone into the care of Thor's cousin Stefan Vahala, and comes in off a 6-week freshen after running 2nd last start back on June 1 at Belmont (He got done by a half-length to Rope Them In), complete with a 1st Up record of 2 wins from 3 starts, which suggests he's damn good fresh.
Also, there's only one Nick who's cold enough to earn a name like Ice Pick Nick...
NICK CAVE.
Enjoy your weekend folks, stay safe, stay negative, KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD, and remember, I'm Crazy Craig, and that's why they call me Craaaaaazy Craig!
