"One bratty boy searching for somewhere to call home, one damaged Daddy Dom looking to escape his grief, and one kinky found family ready to help them both heal.
Micah's starting over. He left his old life in the middle of the night and showed up in San Francisco on a job tip from a friend. However, when Meg hires him at Whipped, he not only enters a new city but also a whole new world with this cozy crew of kinksters. And one man continues to catch his attention again and again.
Parker doesn't do relationships. After his mom died and his father became a shell of himself, he swore never to let anyone wreck him like that. Except Micah's gotten under his skin. The hot new barista at Whipped isn't as vanilla as they all thought, and he's the brattiest boy that Parker could've ever dreamed of playing with. The connection between them? Incendiary.
However, the deeper their relationship grows, the more Micah's realizing he can't just be casual with Parker—not anymore. The man's made a mark on his soul, inspired dreams Micah had never even thought to reach for. But if Parker isn't willing to bend his rules to risk his heart, the two of them are definitely going to break."
I got an ARC of this book.
Kinky. Angsty. Sweet.
I really enjoyed the couple. This was more than just smut, there was an emotional build that really sold some of the kinks for me. I wasn't opposed to any of the kinks in the book on their own, but it can be hard to write a CNC scene and have the characters still feel loving and sweet quickly. There was never any fear. There was clear consent. There was clear love. It was the scene that was like fuck, they are end game and not just horny.
It was a great introduction to the kink cafe, but there were a lot of characters introduced pretty quickly. Some of them were seen in Dungeons and Dating, but I am very much not a fan of large casts introduced quickly. I can't keep them straight. So the beginning was a little rough for me. I can't be sure that I actually know all the side characters even after finishing. I will be reading on in the series. I am determined to know these characters. They are all a hoot. Meg is clearly the best. Why does her book have to be LAST?
Sex educator time! There was mostly great use of condoms and lube. There was discussion of testing and results. The oral sex and rimming without barriers before those conversations happened weren't great. It is pretty common in romance novels (and the gay community) that oral sex happens without barriers, but it is still an issue for me. It doesn't happen very often that the book includes graphic rimming, so while I am annoyed about the lack of barriers I am impressed with that being involved!
I am hoping this series captures my heart like Dungeons and Dating did. That series introduced me to McIntyre and will hold a special place in my heart for that reason.
4 out of 5 stars. I would recommend this book.
You can buy the book here.
